By Granny,on September 12th,2011% In the midst of the flurry of decluttering my house and getting it ready to put on the market,a couple of major changes happened. First, I decided to take all blinds and curtains down from the windows. It brightened up the interior of the house a lot and I felt much more connected to the world outside. The second thing that happened was that I decided to stop smoking in the house. So for the past three weeks, when it’s time for a cigarette, I move out to the front porch. Some interesting changes have resulted from this. For the first time since I started my business,I am getting up from the computer and taking breaks. I’m also much more in touch with the nature outside my house. I watch the birds swooping about, the butterflies crowding around my Buddlea (Butterfly Bush),a small treefrog that came to visit and I see my neighbours in their gardens and walking around the point. I’ve also cut down on my smoking which is a good thing. And my favourite change is that I am thinking more while I sit out on the deck. I intentionally don’t bring out anything to read or do and just think. The realization hit me that prior to these changes, I was usually staring at a screen (computer or tv),reading,or talking on the phone. In younger days,I loved thinking and would sit for long periods of time ruminating about life etc. Thinking about it now, I think I stopped the habit when I became a mother. I was always running about chasing a little girl and had little time to just sit and meditate anymore. And then of course, right around the time,my daughter graduated from high school and moved out, I was busy starting a business and thought only about that for many years. It’s an interesting dynamic how changes begets change and these two simple changes have brought me back to such a simple habit that I enjoy so much.
By Granny,on July 25th,2011% I’ve created a new page called photos so that I can upload new photos all the time for all my friends to oooh and awww over. I’m very lucky that my daughter has a good camera and loves to show off her beautiful children. Check it out. By Granny,on June 8th,2011% My son in law is a huge hockey (read Vancouver Canucks) fan and in the past few years my daughter has also joined the rabid fan movement. My grandchildren have Canucks shirts, pjs, hats etc. The photo here is from last year. There was great joy in the family when little 21 month old Matty said “Hockey”the other night. And below find a video of little 3 month old Jedda is already getting lessons in Canuck fever. Jedda cheering for the Canucks after we won against Boston! [HQ] By Granny,on June 4th,2011% Early on Friday morning,my sweet Charlie left us. He was 15 so had led a good long life. I was fortunate to have him in my life sine March 2010. He was found in a shelter in Los Angeles and was about to be euthanized. A good soul rescued him,and sent him up to a shelter in Victoria. He was a perfect little dog. Well behaved, friendly and very loving. I will miss him a lot. Continue reading Sad Week By Granny,on April 10th,2011% At noon today,I’m jumping on a boat to go across the Vancouver Island to see my family. It will be the first time I’ve been there since Jedda was born. She’s almost 5 weeks old so I’m sure she will be looking very different than the last time I saw her. I’m also really excited to see my darling Matty who is growing so fast and is understanding so much. And of course his parents. I miss them all so much. It’s just that far away that it makes it difficult to go for a day visit so I will be staying for a week. I’m looking forward too,to the drive up with my friend Julie who is visiting her sister in Victoria and she will be driving home to Parksville today so I am right on the way. She and I are both in the same business so we always have so much to discuss. Not many (live) people in my life are in my business. Lots on online people but it is lovely to be able to spend one on one time with someone who knows what I’m talking about. By Granny,on April 4th,2011% Have been on Twitter for about a year now and I’m still trying to figure out how people follow it all. I have about 80 people that I am following and about the same number are following me. In the last hour, there were about 35 tweets. So how on earth do people following 100s and even 1000s of people keep up with it all. Very confusing. I can only imagine that people get very very good and scanning and ignoring. By Granny,on April 1st,2011% My daughter called today to let me know that she had a whole five hours sleep last night. (In a row). She was feeling pretty happy and had more good news. Last night Matty peed in his potty for the first time. All the small things that make us so happy. And,I’ve added a couple of photos of Jedda to the Header Image. By Granny,on February 18th,2011%
Seems like only yesterday,my daughter was a little girl and today she’s a grown woman with a son and another child on the way. Where did all the time go? I’m very proud of my daughter for many, many reasons. These days I find myself asking for her advice because she has so much wisdom. I’m sending her wishes for a great year and hoping that I will be living close by very soon so that I can be there to help with both babies. Can hardly wait for the fun to begin. This photo was taken of her when she was a tiny girl wearing a bag from her Grandma and Grandpa’s bookshop. It hung in the store for many years. By Granny,on January 3rd,2011% I make the same resolution every year. “This year,I will learn something new”. Recently I was surfing the net and I discovered a site which lists podcasts in various categories and after listening to some,I found one called “Stuff You Missed in History Class“. It’s put on by the website “How Stuff Works”and is really fun to listen to. The last two nights,I’ve found myself unable to get up and head to bed until way too late because I can’t stop listening. | GrannyhoodGrowing up,I never had a grandmother close. One was in Germany and the other was in Scotland. I was in Canada. So not having a role model,it's all completely new to me and I LOVE IT. It's so much fun having these lovely little babies to play with. Still learning what being a Granny is all about. | |
